It’s been a year since my first busy board “Control Panel”, which successfully functions till now. Busyboard is a baby activity board that, simply put, keeps babies busy & engaged, while learning.

Busyboard provides a combination of hardware pieces and puzzles that gives an active toddler a safe, yet realistic skill-building play area.

The baby activity board lets babies explore.

They can practice fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and logic. All while playing as much as they like with otherwise “forbidden” stuff.

Why Aviator busy board?

This summer was all about aviation for Emir, therefore it was for me, too. 🙂 He was very much into Hayao Miyazaki’s “Wind Rises“. We watched it, like, a million times. Really nice story about dreaming big for little boys. And for me, there were quite a few interesting historical details. I wiki-ed professor Junkers (did you know that he has nothing to do with WWII bombers?), and Zero bomber. I’m more educated now. That’s what I call a good animated movie.

So, this baby activity board is dedicated to aviation and aircraft constructors.

Here it is.

And here’s what’s it all about.

It’s full of tumblers, scrollers, propellers, buttons, and chains, and a pretty tense wind-up detail in the center, and little doors with “Three!… Two!… One!..” behind them. I was constantly double-checking everything while making (I mean PLAYING, you know). And I had a beta-tester, too.

To make sure this becomes the very most favorite toy, I go for letting your kid “take the lead” in designing – it’s also an important part of the play.

This acrylic shade is called “Aviation Blue” – yes, please!

Doors, handles, and propellers are all handmade, from scratch. And not because I’m so eco-minded or frugal. Rather, because when you have no car and 15 miles away from the nearest craft store, it’s much easier to just DIY that handles.

Done!

The process was lots of fun, though a stretch time-wise. There were lots and lots of fitting, gluing, drilling, painting, and moving it all around. In the end, we both were absolutely happy.

I loved making it. Emir loves playing with it.

And now I feel there are some more of those in my head, just waiting to be made.

By the way, that’s what my first baby activity toy – “Control Panel Busy Board” – looks like after a year of heavy use:
